Even though it still is clashing chilly in the Bavarian Forest and the landscape is covered in deep snow – the activity of the Eurasian otter (Lutra lutra) is unchanged. Therefore, nothing else remains to be done for Yannick and Julia, than withstanding wind, snow and the prevailing winter temperatures when searching for the faeces of this marten species. The subsequent molecular analysis will tell us about their diet in winter.
Moreover, our two team members collect water samples to identify the species composition in the rivers, which will shed light on the prey spectrum of the otters living there.
